Keir is an intuitive and empathetic counsellor, with over twenty years’ experience gained in hospitals, residential rehabilitation, and counselling services. He works with adults and adolescents experiencing mental health challenges, from mild to moderate depression, anxiety and interpersonal issues, through to more complex and co-occurring concerns. Keir also works with families and carers, and he is a Gottman trained couples counsellor.
Keir works with the whole person in context, by considering biological, psychological and social factors. His approach to counselling is encouraging, reassuring and non-judgemental, and his consulting room is quiet and private, with warm tones and lots of sunlight. He is passionate about providing a safe and supportive space, where he can help clients to explore and reflect on their thoughts and feelings; and discover new insights into their story.
Keir is passionate about men’s and parents’ mental health and wellbeing; and supporting families of all shapes and sizes to thrive. He utilises various modalities and techniques in practice, including Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and trauma-based therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. He also specialises in Alcohol and Other Drug related issues, addictions, and diagnoses such as Bipolar and Schizophrenia.
Prior to private practice, Keir trained and supervised clinicians and counsellors at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and worked on the Crisis Assessment (CATT) and Substance Use and Mental Illness Treatment teams. He has also advised the Victorian Department of Health as a sitting member of the statewide Dual Diagnosis Initiative.
